Is it "Congress's" Constitutional Duty To Raise The Debt Ceiling?

Yeah, they are.
WHERE were they when Trump was office?
Bush?
Reagan?

They came out of the woodwork when Clinton, Obama and Biden was/in office.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Your petty complaints about the past are not a compelling reason for bad fiscal policy today

We must bring deficit spending under control

I've condemned the whole thing.........that's the part you and others completely skip over. I'm not trying to defend any of them. They all have failed and are failing us.

Trump may not be president but when he was he failed immensely and many want to give him another shot at it.

The rubes were just fine when Trump spent like a 16 year old girl with Daddy's Gold Card.

The rubes were just fine when the GQP bent over for him when it was time to raise the debt ceiling.

But NOW it's DIFFERENT. NOW it's a CRISIS.

Not surprising, but still amazing to watch.

Smokin' OP, you seem to disagree with what I said. What specifically did you object to? The part where the closest thing we had to a balanced budget was when Newt and Bubba crossed swords?
You give NOOT to much credit.
Clinton raised revenue, NOOT wanted to cut revenue.
Fortunately, Clinton raised enough revenue the Budget would have been balanced and had a surplus without NOOT'S tax cuts.
Bush, messed that up, as soon as he was installed.

the past bad "fiscal" policy of the Trump tax cuts and the Bush tax cuts before him are the reason we are in the shape we are in.
That and two, two decade wars.
NOW, teabaggers are at it again.

Overspending is a bipartisan experience

Tax cuts, within reason, do not increase the debt

THAT should happen during the budget negotiating process, not when you are about paying the bill.
Are you not going to pay a credit card bill until you come up with a budget?
"I'm not going to pay my credit card bill this month, until I come up with a budget for next month".
Guess what the credit card company would reply to that?
They don’t abide by any budget. They keep spending more than was budgeted.

The House of Reps passed a bill. The senate is sitting on it.

Think about it. Karine Jean-Pierre says:

“You’ve heard from the president multiple times during the last five months. He’s been very clear,” she said. “You’ve heard from the president; you’ve heard from the economic team; you’ve heard from Democrats, the leadership in the House, in the Senate talk — speak to this about the urgency, about Congress actually needing to act and doing their constitutional duty.”

So, if it was set up that it is up to Congress to raise the debt ceiling then that pretty much means that it isn't an automatic thing if they have to decide to do it. So, it is not Congress's Constitutional duty to just raise the debt ceiling automatically because it was set up that they debate it.

Further, I find it fairly amusing that some Democrats want to use the 14th amendment from 1868 to override a law from 1917.

Not to mention, Republicans in the House have already passed a debt ceiling increase. We're waiting on the Senate and Biden to pass it into law.

The debts of the United States shall not be questioned.

The Constitution is clear on that fact.

Paying your bills for money you already spent, isn't a deal you make on money you're going to spend next year.

There are no deals. Pay your bills deadbeats.

Sure.............just like a $100 deduction in a person's paycheck has no bearing on the person's ability to pay their bills.

No. (in case I didn't directly answer. lol)

They damn sure don't abide by a budget. Trump and Republicans ran up the debt $9 Trillion in just 4 years. They ran up the deficit $2 Trillion.

They don't get to demand anything on a budget, spending, or the deficit. They can vote to get rid of the great Republican tax scam anytime they want. That's the only deal they're going to get.

Hacks like this guy is the reason things don’t get done.

The gop is already readying its next tax cut primarily for the 1%

And the gop's deficit negotiations don't have anything to do with the actual deficits .... assuming one paid (-: attention during 88-92, 00-08 and 16-20

Paycheck?

Dont you mean welfare check?
Sure..........If the Trump welfare crowd could just get by on what they earned.

President Trump kicked off his holiday weekend at Mar-a-Lago Friday night at a dinner where he told friends, "You all just got a lot richer," referencing the sweeping tax overhaul he signed into law hours earlier. Mr. Trump directed those comments to friends dining nearby at the exclusive club.

The president has spent many weekends of his presidency so far at the "Winter White House," where initiation fees cost $200,000, annual dues cost $14,000, and some of the most affluent members of society have the opportunity to interact with the president in a setting while many Americans cannot.
