Creating rankings of morality is an ugly business.

Even with just cause, war is ugly to conduct. The best anyone can do is to conduct war as ethically as possible under the circumstances given to them.

One of the problems in having these discussions is the accuracy of information. We can be in agreement that indiscriminate bombing is ethically wrong, but if one of us believes that Israel is indiscriminately bombing and the other believes that Israel is targeting military objectives, we are going to have different outcomes, even with the same core agreements.

Finding common ground would be a two-step process. First, establishing those core values and principles, then determining if those were followed by the parties to the conflict.
