Not a single person has argued they were deleted. This is little more than an attempt to deflect what happened. Trump tried to get the person over the tapes to delete them but in the end the guy did not delete them.

In comparison it would be more like a person hiring another to kill someone but that person turns them in instead. This is likely what has happened. Not wanting to get in trouble themselves, they ratted out Trump.

When the tech eventually followed through on that order he was doing so believing (correctly as it turned out) that he was deleting emails NOT covered by the eventual subpoena (which stated only official email be retained)
