And a vaccine? Likely not widely available until late next year.

We should have a plan in place to get our kids back in schools. Suicides, overdoses etc., are up over averages according to the CDC and we cannot simply tell kids to stay home for some indefinite period based on nebulous goals.

If teachers don't want to go back into the classrooms for whatever reason, fine, it's their call, they can go do something else, as have millions of other Americans who have had their lives upended by this.

If parents don't want to send their kids for whatever reason, fine. Hold them back a year or however long this takes, although I don't know that there is any definitive idea or estimate on when that will actually be. There will always be an element of risk here.

I would imagine that some remote work would be available to teach kids whose parents don't send them back. If not, they can go on unemployment just like the millions of others have had to when they were tossed out of their jobs. I don't see why we would treat this particular profession differently.

There is risk. It's not likely going away, so there is no end game. Without that we're just flailing away trying to minimize something for who knows how long, with who knows how much effectiveness and completely ignoring secondary effects of these actions, which has been the MO since early on here. Other countries are opening their schools, while some never closed them.

Take measures, fine, put some protocols in place, fine, but set those targets, set the timetables and get the schools opened.
