No One Has a Right to Health Care

No One Has a Right to Health Care
by Jacob G. Hornberger February 3, 2016

Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says that everyone has a right to health care. Unfortunately, none of his presidential opponents, Democrat or Republican, is going to challenge him on the point. They’re too scared that they’d lose votes by challenging a standard socialist shibboleth in America.

Sanders’ assertion only goes to show how American socialists (i.e., progressives) have warped and perverted the concept of rights within the minds of the American people. The fact is that no one has a right to health care any more than he has a right to a home, a car, food, spouse, or anything else.

The correct concept of rights was enunciated by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, the document that Americans ironically celebrate every Fourth of July. Jefferson observed that people have been endowed with certain unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

From your sig: The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms

The right to kill, but not the right to live? You are one fucked up bastard.

If the government is paying for health care, the answer of course will be let them die. Just who will be encouraged to die is the question. Whoever the government considers non essential. The 70 year old man with a stroke will die. The 35 year old mother with three children may not.

You think private insurance companies don't make decisions on the health procedures that will be approved for the elderly?

The business model of the for-profit insurance company is to take in the maximum amount possible while paying out the minimum amount possible.

Of course Americans have a right to healthcare

The alternative is......let em die

Where does this end? Everyone needs:

  • Food
  • Shelter
  • Water
  • Air
  • Love
  • Clothing
  • Transportation
  • Etc., etc.

So they have a right to all of this?

Of course not.. you leftwing nutters crack me up.

Um...most of those they do have a right to

Money can't buy you love

Really? When did this happen? Then why am I still paying for these things if I have a right to them?

I have end stage renal disease, yearly dialysis costs for me to stay alive run between 70 to 80 thousand dollars a year. I was diagnosed and told that nothing I did caused this disease. Although only 40 years old I am on medicare and I am blessed that people like the OP are not running this country.

Crap like the OP is entirely self-referential. "Well, I'm healthy and I don't go to doctors and I don't understand why everybody else can't be like Me, ME, MEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

They have no understanding of what you go through every day, and when you try to explain, their reaction is "Why should I have to pay for it?"

Ignorance and indifference, the Ugly American.

Thats what I like about you, Nutjobber. It's the constant fallacy in your posts. In this cae the fallacy of false dichotomy. The alternative to gov't provided healthcare is privately provided healthcare. Not letting them die.
Bulloney. Many, many, many people CANNOT AFFORD to buy private insurance, including many businesses. What the businesses around here (and probably everywhere) have been doing since Obamacare came out is to hire people part-time, cap at 30 hours per week, so they won't have to provide insurance. Which leaves people with less hours/less money and also no insurance, which they can't afford to buy privately.
Without access to healthcare, people will die. You can't argue that. Probably you and I would be dead right now if we hadn't received antibiotics or an operation or a polio or smallpox vaccine somewhere along the way. We take it for granted, but doctors in private practice are under no obligation to treat patients who can't pay. Period. No $, no doctor.

You have a right to a society where all of those things are obtainable. In your case, I don't think live is obtainable

Anyone who has been seriously sick or had a loved one who was seriously sick understands why healthcare is a right

That's their problem.

They aren't my responsibility or yours or the taxpayers of America.

When was any of this not attainable?

Its a right as long as you can pay for it.

So people with end-stage renal disease like the poster in Post #224 should just die?

Babies born with heart defects should just die?

Who else would you pass judgment on?

Their problems are their own. They aren't my responsibility or the taxpayers of America's responsibility.

Its not passing judgment moron. Its stating a fact.

People are responsible for themselves.

Rights are about protection, not about forced giving. The right to bear arms does not mean you have a right to be given a gun if you can't afford one.

Free health care is not a right any more than free guns are.

Its a right as long as you can pay for it.

and yet every other civilized country makes sure that it's people receive health care.

in this country people pay for it and then get canceled as soon as they need it.

Good for them. In this country your supposed to take care of your own responsibilities. Unless your a freeloader that is.
