Scott Walker's achilles heal (-:

To suppose that a person who did not finish college is deficient is pure idiocy. As is the assumption that because someone graduated from an Ivy League college they are brilliant.

Because of the nature of my work I have had to switch jobs frequently throughout my career (1975-present). Many, many times the companies I worked for told us that because of a business downturn we would have to produce more with fewer resources (including people). Usually we did it, because we had no choice. We realized that we could work harder and smarter, and the world would not end.

But try something like that in the public sector and people look at you like you are crazy. Any good executive could walk into any one of 95% of American colleges and universities and cut one-third of the budget within two years without compromising the quality of the "product" in the least. But it will never happen. The culture is irredeemably corrupt.

In the 21st century, any leader who does not have a degree is deficient

Trying to claim "common sense" is just another way of saying "stupid"

Tell that to David Geffen, Ted Turner, and Larry Ellison (all Democrats).

In fact:

One in four self-made American billionaires dropped out of college

Is Walker a self made billionaire?

Which is amazing since Walker has done more for Wisconsin than O has done for the US in six years. What were O's grades?

He has?

Walker couldn't even negotiate a simple contract with his teachers without shutting down his entire state. That is leadership?
Shows what a college dropout thinks about education

Caving in to belligerent demands is not "negotiating." That's all you're advocating.

yeah, I have an open mind, but from what I've seen, a good argument can be made that Walker's tax and spending cuts have at least contributed to Wisc not recovering from the great recession as fast as other states. the Univ of Wisc at Madison is a huge jobs factory in terms of research and development and worker training.

I'm not a fan of Obama's "shovel ready" bs either, though.

I know. You're upset that he's doing good things for the state. We get it.

You seem to be the one with the inability to think. March step with the faux news boys.

Do you realize or understand the type of government Finland uses. I think not, and Canada and some of the others you are touting as examples on your list.
LOL

I don't think there is waste, per se, in education. There is too much constraint on the teachers. I know many teachers and they all seem to say the same thing. Stop getting in their way with things like common core, NCLB testing, and all this nonsense, and let them get on with doing what they are so very good at doing.

Does the declining numbers of our students ability as compared with the rest of the world seem to fit that?

education-rankings.jpg

Hey, when you're a small socialist country, you tend to apply your needs to areas that need to be looked at, America, as a large socialist government, is everywhere but where it should be... I know, you're such a fucking genius, you didn't think of that... problem is you don't think, simply agenda driven, right subversive?

Walker couldn't graduate from our education system.....why should he expect anyone else to?

Using that logic neither "could" Bill Gates nor Steve Jobs.

Bill Gates and Steve Jobs hired thousands of well educated people who did indeed graduate from college. In fact beyond maintenance employees and assembly employees, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the rest had college degrees. Or were working on those degrees when they worked at the companies. I know that Microsoft pays for college education for employees. I don't know for sure about Apple but would not be surprised if they did too. A lot of big companies offer that benefit to employees. It's a tax deduction for the company and it adds more properly educated people to their work force.

If your argument is that they run a company without a degree therefor they are qualified to run our nation, no, you're wrong.

They did well in their field of expertise and what they had a natural talent for.

However Apple and Microsoft don't negotiate international treaties. They don't write budgets that are several trillions of dollars for a whole nation. They don't write legislation for a nation. Apple makes computers, phones and iPods. Microsoft makes software and a tablet they call Surface.

A private company isn't a democracy or a republic. They don't hold company wide elections and the employees don't choose who runs the company. The executives and management don't answer to the employees. The executives and management make all the decisions and the employees follow those decisions or they're fired.

There's a HUGE difference between running a company and running a nation.

No. Does one have to be a self-made billionaire to not be deficient?

Are you saying that the President of the US doesn't have the ability to hire college-educated specialists to execute all those tasks? I disagree.

Oh so you live in Wisconsin? I have lived here my whole life. The state hasn't progressed one iota. The 250 thousand jobs he promised? Nowhere near. Flat out lie. If there is a high turnout he won't even carry his home state. Those of you who don't live here are clueless dupes. We all found out how he feels about working people when he took that phone call from the fake Lock brother. Purely a puppet for the wealthy. Sad.

Most sane Americans probably agree that we are not getting our money's worth out of bloated educational budgets.

I taught school 25 years, and was appalled at the waste.

What did you do about it? Nothing? But you did collect your paycheck, and your retirement.

No, not Scott Walker, the sweetheart of corporate America. <sarcasm>

The same thing was asked when we pointed out how inexperienced, ill educated and lazy the bush boy was.

We ended up being right.

Yes the president can hire people to do jobs. If they're anything like the bush boy's choices of who to hire, we're in big trouble. You see, those who are in over their heads, can never make proper decisions on hiring.

I don't want a president who was too lazy to finish college. You may have different views.

However, America is now cleaning up after the last republican president. We don't need to invite that disaster back into our government and give them another chance to collapse our economy.

I will say that a person who isn't properly educated is dependent on those around him who are. Which basically turns that president into a puppet of whoever is bankrolling them. Which in the case of scott walker, that's the koch brothers.

So is that why the economy sucks so much now? Because Obama is in over his head, has no education in economics and doesn't understand how businesses work?

I can agree with that.

The ideas matter to me, not the pedigree. An education is quite helpful but it's no guarantee of any sort of result. I know chemists that sell insurance, engineers that renovate houses, and economists that work customer service. I also know a self-made millionaire who quit high school at 16 to start a tech consulting company he sold to Dell when he was 19. He's retired in his 40s now and is highly intellectual. He has no need to attend college to gain some credential he sees as useless for him, but he's very knowledgeable in marketing, finance, supply chain management and of course all things IT.

We had some good conversations about 10 years ago (when our kids were infants) and we kicked around the idea of not sending our kids to college. When all was said and done, we both agreed that it's never a bad idea to attend formal schooling unless there is a compelling reason not to ("and with a lot of luck," he adds). It is certainly not a requirement for excellent leadership and results though. There had better be a damn good reason for not attending college, however.

I have no idea if Walker is a good choice or not. Since he's a Republican, he'd be tolerable at best. At least he has executive experience, something Obama lacked. The President's rookie status at being in charge of anything really showed with his inept strategies and lack of results.

Bush had an MBA from Harvard. He's hardly uneducated, but it does prove that the Ivy League isn't as pristine as their board would wish us to believe. The guy was definitely a shitbag on macroeconomics (almost as bad as Obama).

I like the GOP plan. Since they don't believe in science and education is for snobs, just stop paying for it altogether. Who needs it? Rick Santorum got it right:

We have FAR more 'scientists' in our ranks than do dimocraps. It isn't even close.

We also have FAR more people with degrees.

I decided when I was in College that all I was doing was learning how to be an employee. That's all you learn. That's all they can teach you -- How to work for somebody else.

I didn't want to work for somebody else. My goal was to be self-employed, to be the master of my own fate.

You? You need all the help you can get. A PhD in Burger flipping is what you need.

That's all College is anymore. A bunch of lazy, unmotivated shithead kids with no ambition being sent off to College by their hopeful parents; mistakenly believeing that 4 years (and $50k) will help little Johnny 'find his way'

Little Janey is just there looking for her 'MRS Degree' most of the time. Unless she's ugly as a gunny sack full of assholes.... In which case she is destined to get a Masters and go to work for the goobermint at the IRS or some other parasitic job placement..... Maybe Academia.

Real College? REAL Degrees? I'm all for them. But we can't even produce enough Engineers, we have to import them (and their stinking breath) from India.

dimocraps arre just stupid

So I take it you have a chip on your shoulder because you didn't finish college?
"We have FAR more 'scientists' in our ranks than do dimocraps. It isn't even close."-Edgetho
And then you post; "dimocraps arre just stupid". Obviously, that statement is the result of your continuous anger issues but it was not an intelligent statement. Your entire post is just your opinion driven by hate and anger.
Now, according to Pew Research, only 6% of scientist are Republican, whereas 55% are Democrats and 32% are Independents.
Thirdly, both of my daughters graduated from college. Both have been very successful both personally and financially. My parents paid for my college education and I paid for my daughters college education. It's so nice not to have to worry about them.

The failed Governor of Wisconsin does not have a single accomplishment to his name. He is universally regarded as the worst Governor ever
