Also to your false causation ... it was Rump's blatant denial of having done exactly that, on a debate stage on national TV, that gave relevance to the stories they had been already telling for years.

I don't agree that the women currently coming forward about Trump's tiny hands are "looking for their fifteen minutes of fame." Actually, the opposite is probably true--there are many more, no doubt, that won't come forward because they DON'T want to be in the national spotlight, getting slandered by a political party that has become foaming at the mouth mad in defense of their candidate. The ones coming forward are willing to prove him a liar when he told the country it was just talk.
Some guy doing what Trump routinely did is not uncommon or the end of the world, either. Not worth running for a cop or a lawyer. It's just rude and offensive. Technically, sure you could call it assault, but there would have to be more damage for me to go through all the inconvenience of making an official Big Deal out of it.
These ladies are trying to do the voters a service. They can believe it or not, as they wish.
