How DO you guys do it?

There seem to be a pretty fair number of people who just about live their lives on this board. Most of them seem to rail against entitlements of one form or another. I'm thinking that in order to spend the amount of time on here that some people do, they would almost have to be either retired or unemployed. So how do those views square with either receiving Social Security and Medicare or Unemployment?

We're all warmed by the fires started by others; liberals understand this while conservatives were born on 2nd base but insist that they hit a double.

Love the baseball analogy..

Sure you would, its a retarded assumption a conservative or liberal would born into any assumed income bracket.

So as a Republican whos paid a crapload into social security,I dont deserve social security? And didnt you say that you dont criticize people who collect SS? Oh I get it...it's only the dirty Republicans who dont deserve SS.
What exactly makes me a taker when you consider I've paid way more in social security payments, then some asswipe who worked at mickyds his whole life?
If it were up to me I would rather keep my own money and invest it as I see fit.
But instead I give it to the government to redistribute to people who aren't smart enough to manage their own money.
And of course this is all fair in your mind. Talk about certain patterns...........

I guess I need to explicitly state this: You are perfectly entitled to your Social Security. I'll be perfectly entitled to my Social Security when I reach the proper age. What I'm criticizing is the people who spend so much time here that they must be on some kind of entitlement program yet think that all entitlements should be done away with.

If you have a legitimate reason to collect an entitlement, you still have the right to complain about those gaming the system. In fact I would say you have more reason then those who dont receive anything.
Not only does it make people who deserve help look like slackers,it removes monies from the system for those who truly need it.

I'm outraged by the people who game the system too. Always have been. I think most of them are high up in the corporatocracy or on Wall Street however. Yeah, there are probably a few welfare moms out there who are scamming the system but I suspect their contributions to our fiscal woes are miniscule.

Another thing that I find outrageous is that many Social Security recipients vote for scumbags like Mitt Romney who would eliminate the system if it were up to him. I guess their SS is sacrosanct and people like me who've only contributed for 40 years should be screwed.

Some may be retired some may be unemployed some may be a stay at home parent of course with smart phones, I phones, I pads, mini I pads, lap tops, wireless internet just about everywhere a person can pretty much log on anytime from anywhere.

I'm more concerned about welfare cheats then people getting monies back in the form of SS that they paid for. And I have to ask for some proof that Mitt planned on axing SS. That would be political suicide.

Stupid question and the answer(s) are obvious if you think about it.

People could be here for many reasons.

Some are retired and drawing social security. SS is mandatory, regardless of what your income was. It was something people were forced to pay into their entire lives and the amount that most get back in monthly payments don't begin to add up to what they and their employers paid in. Do not ever confuse earned benefits with welfare. Military retirement and social security are true entitlements. People have no choice when it comes to Medicare either. That is the government forcing people into programs and then patting themselves on the back for helping people. Just like Obama and his thugs are praising themselves for forcing Obamacare on people. It's no where near as good as the private sector and they are making things more expensive while reducing the quality. Only the subsidized are happy with government. The people who spend their whole lives paying get short changed. Welfare is NOT an entitlement, it is a hand out, and politicians should be ashamed for treating it like an earned benefit. They rename things to pander to their voters.

Millions of people are unemployed now, though are no longer counted when the unemployment rate is calculated. Many of those exhausted their unemployment benefits or have settled for a part time job. I don't blame them for expressing themselves here or anywhere else. Don't confuse people who lost their jobs and are unable to find another one with those who never wanted a job to begin with.

Some people work from their homes and might blow off steam on their breaks. Deal with it. After all, you claimed to have been here long enough to read enough posts to determine the content and frequency of posts written by a great many members. It's reasonable to assume you have a great deal of time on your hands. Funny that someone who spends a lot of time on a message board has the nerve to pick on others who do the same. So, do you exist on entitlements or welfare?

Then there are those who have time on their hands because they don't attend school or work or they are government dependents (as in collecting benefits they did not earn) and some might even get paid to attack political dissenters and spout talking points. These are the easiest ones to spot because their posts demonstrate a gross lack of intelligence and they are incapable of debate. Their posts lack substance and they rarely engage with anyone who questions them or disagrees with the talking points. Usually, the poster quickly results to name calling.

Of course, your question wasn't asked because you honestly wonder about the employment or retirement status of posters or whether they should somehow feel guilty for getting a little check each month (and have no choice). No one ever asked them how they felt paying in thousands of dollars each year while they were working. Do you wonder how people feel about that?

You merely thought you'd pretend to have completed an intense study of this board in order to take a cheap shot at retirees who collect a measly monthly check that took them a lifetime to earn. Social Security was a liberal idea that is proving to be unsustainable, as many warned at the time. It's a shame that people like Obama's aunt, who is here illegally, manage to collect social security disability while living for free in a nice apartment and handed everything they need. Nothing is free. Someone has to pay and the government takes more and more from the people with little regard to the hardships they cause. While they go out of their way to ensure that the illegal aliens are made comfortable and work shy have everything they need, they give no consideration to the working families who sacrifice more and more just so the politicians can cater to their base and win votes.

Then we have the smart asses, like yourself, who come here and make snide remarks that people posting must be recipients of handouts and, therefore, hypocrites who complain about free loaders. If you don't know the difference between qualifying for social security and welfare, then you are not qualified to discuss true entitlements.
I don't see how anyone could spend their days posting and still hold down a job. Maybe there're retired, independent wealthy, or unemployed. I would bet that most people who post throughout the day are either retired, disabled or both.

I'm sure a lot of them are retired. But I've noticed that some only post between 9AM and 5PM, which suggests their jobs enable them to kill time on-line when not doing other things.

Some work at home. I know one woman who is a medical transcriptionist. She works for an hour, takes a fifteen minute break at a forum, works another hour, another break, and so on through the day. So it looks like she spends all day in the various forums.

The U.S. government can take their social security check and shove it down their children's mouths. I don't want near it. Won't be there anyway.
What that tells me is you are younger than fifty. Because until they reach fifty, most people do not truly believe they ever will grow old.

That simply is the way it is with the prospect of dying and growing old. We think we believe it, but we really don't accept it as a certainty. And that is why most young people feel the way you do about Social Security. They are pissed off every payday when they see the FICA box on their paycheck because to accept the prospect of collecting their monthly Social Security check is to accept the prospect of gray hair, missing teeth, and arthritis.

But take my word for it, R.C. All of it will come to you one day. One day you will look back and say, "That went by fast!"

I hope it's worth it to all you boomers out there who think you're entitled to something at your grand kid's expense.
How thoughtlessly mean-spirited of you. Who do you think paid for your parents, or grandparents, monthly SS check? It was you and me. And our grand-kids will pay for ours.

It's a Ponzi scheme which has been working flawlessly for almost eighty years and will keep working if we can manage to suppress the neo-Conservatives who want to kill it. But one thing is certain, if Social Security ever does fail we will have a lot more than that to be concerned about.

So enjoy your youth while you have it and don't be so pissed off at the inevitable. It's coming and there is nothing you can do about it.

Yeah, it would be political suicide if he came out and said so in so many words. But he WAS stupid enough to say that he'd fire Big Bird. And what he hasn't been afraid to say regarding SS is that he'd raise the retirement age and slash benefits.

I've been spending far too much time on this board and it's hurting my job - writing. I'm way behind on a novel I have to finish soon and even further behind on the complete re-write of another novel I think should be a big seller.

It's gotten to the point where I know which posts to ignore and when to unsubscribe from a thread.

You'll quickly catch on.

I enjoy the internet. It is both entertaining and useful in my life and my work interests. SOOoo... I have made the web very accessible both with wyfi and logistical placement.

I do not waste time on the internet... I save time on the internet. Going to sites like USMB is just an added entertainment bonus.

I am self employed I work when I want to, not because I need to.
