Frankly, I've never taken felicity in delegating what is rightly my own burden to others, news organizations or otherwise. News outlets are wonderful for calling attention to things at a high level, at the level of "XYZ objectively identified events occurred at a given date and time, and 'so and so' were the actors involved and they said ABC." From there, if the issue matters to me, I am quite content to "run with it" and research on my own what the background details are, what the surrounding/confounding circumstances are, etc. With that, I can then decide what I think about the event itself, its implications and perpetrators.

I think that's what everyone should do. I think too that news organizations should exit or be denied access to the opinion basis. The fact is that people need news to provide copious sums of accurate and objective information not information that leads one toward what to think about the information and certainly not full on opinions. For example (hypothetical):

• Purely Objective:
  • 64% of the residents of Detroit earn $35K/year or less.
  • Using "such and such" methodological approach, we found that 15% of Detroit adults between 18 and 65 who sought work in July 2015 did not receive any job offers.
• Leading Information:
  • 22% of the residents of Detroit live in poverty.
  • 15% of Detroit's adults were unemployed in July 2105.
• Opinion:
  • Detroit's economic policies are a disaster.
  • There are no good jobs available in Detroit.

Were I to have my way, news organizations would present nothing but information of the first sort. People, I, you, everyone else, can take the bits of objective information, analyze it and arrive at a conclusion. We don't need news organizations to do that for us.
