Jon Stewart gives tearful speech after no Congressman shows up to 9/11 fighters compensation hearing

Jon Stewart has been fighting for the 9-11 responders since it all began on 9-11.

What's shameful is that he has to fight at all. What's shameful is that back in the early 2000s congress didn't pass a bill to take care of these heroes permanently so they didn't have to keep fighting all their lives for what's right. Proper health care. The government and EPA lied to them and all of us. That air wasn't safe.

We owe all these heroes everything. They didn't make us beg them to help on 9-11 and the days after. They just helped. We shouldn't make them have to beg for help now.

Politicians have used 9-11 and the first responders for their own political benefit yet they can't do what's right for them and provide permanent life long medical care for the diseases they're suffering now because they thought nothing of their own safety, they just went in to save lives.

What a pathetic display Congress is showing these days. If isn't about impeachment they don't feel like showing up.

It was a good tongue lashing. . . Amazing how few congressmen showed up to hear the representative of the first responders speak. I wonder if anyone would have showed up at all if it hadn't been Jon.

Most of Congress is running for president, so they don't have time to do their fucking jobs.

That list is wrong, as Cline actually spoke. He became emotional.

How about he stop crying to Congress and GET OFF HIS ASS and raises private money! This is a show we all know the fund will be supplied.

But why not have a charity! Why not have a Muslim tax?

The report stated that this was the attendance at the time Stewart began, not for the full speech or hearing. There were coming and goings. I cannot say if he was there for the full speech. It is possible it is in error.

Fire and rescue services are the responsibility of the state not the federal government.

Seems to me the State of NY is the villain here

Watch: Jon Stewart calls out lawmakers over 9/11 victims' compensation fund in emotional House testimony
A spokesman for the subcommittee told Fox News all but two of its members attended today's hearing, with Reps Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., those who were missing. The spokesman added that other empty seats seen could have been on account of members coming and going during the course of a hearing

How about he stop crying to Congress and GET OFF HIS ASS and raises private money! This is a show we all know the fund will be supplied.

But why not have a charity! Why not have a Muslim tax?

Because a charity may or may not raise enough money every year. One of the people involved was starting his 89th round of chemo when the video was done. Many of these first responders have been sick for 18 years. The charity might have the money and they might not.

And, regardless of what money is given, the congressmen could have at least had the respect to fucking show up. They are all too happy to use these brave men & women for their purposes with photo ops. But helping them stay alive, when they are dying because they responded without hesitation? Shameful.

And why is it there is never any money for first responders health problems or veterans health problems? But always enough money for another senseless war, another golf vacation or another tax break for the rich?

Ask democrats...
A charity along with government funding which will always be there. So it was a show.. Stewart is a loser..
you are to if you fell for that garbage

More Kabuki theater in the halls of congress.

Does anyone really think that a bill to spend more money on these poor people wouldn't get passed?
Lol
Yep,
Kabuki theatre Definitely describes Jon Stewart... Especially on the sincerity of his concern

Yeah, a man with passion for a worthy cause is a loser. A man who has been helping the first responders for years, while other walked away is a loser. Go back to your kitchen job and let the grownups discuss the issues.

And if you think the gov't funding will always be there, you are naive.

I been helping ! It’s my tax money! If he wanted to help he would raise money!

That gov fund will always be full. Him crying was a slap in the face to the survivors

Semantics

States are responsible for the funding of fire departments and the benefits paid to them.

We have no federal services that respond to local situations

I do believe that we have a responsibility to help. It was an attack on the US. Now, I totally agree with you he should be out there trying to raise private funds, as well.
