Manchin Didn’t Just Shiv Biden’s Agenda, He Whacked Biden’s Central Campaign Promise Too

A democrat senator that used common sense and the left is crucifying him.
It really does paint a picture on where the democrats are today.
Perhaps in the future they should change the party name to the Democratic Socialists of America,
or maybe the People's Republic of America.

I have to tell you honestly, I am enjoying watching the socialists/communists/cockroaches coming out with
their distain for Joe Manchin. Just shows how much they hate common sense.

The Wall Street firm told clients Sunday it no longer assumes President Joe Biden's signature legislation will get through the narrowly divided Congress, citing the West Virginia Democrat's announcement that he's a "no" on the $1.75 trillion bill.
"A failure to pass BBB has negative growth implications," Goldman Sachs economists, led by Jan Hatzius, said in the research report.
Citing the "apparent demise" of Build Back Better, Goldman Sachs now expects GDP to grow at an annualized pace of 2% in the first quarter, down from 3% previously.

The bank also trimmed its GDP forecasts for the second quarter to 3% (from 3.5% previously) and the third quarter to 2.75% (compared with 3% previously). It specifically pointed to the expiration of the child tax credit and the lack of the other new spending that had been anticipated

Seems that the government freebies had a lot to do with your question, otto
How is the child tax credit a freebie?

Manchin Didn’t Just Shiv Biden’s Agenda, He Whacked Biden’s Central Campaign Promise Too

If anyone should understand Joe Manchin’s motives for screwing average Americans, the environment, and our democracy itself, it should be “Status Quo Joe” Biden. Manchin’s political decisions, aside from being self-serving, are dictated by his true constituents. No, not the voters back home, his duty is to his high-powered political contributors.
Biden is the one trying to Joe Manchin’s screw average Americans. BBB does nothing but screw average Americans. There's nothing good in to for the average taxpayers, it ads $5 trillion to the deficit, and it will drive inflation to the stratosphere.

Well it will be Manchins fault when the children's start crying their hungry. Republican children too in his state. I never see empty shelves at the stores.
So these children weren't hungry before, but they will be now because the bill didn't pass?

Like the vast majority of Senate members, regardless of party affiliation, the needs of the folks back home are rarely a priority, except those folks back home that head major corporations or whose personal wealth is in the ten-figure range... or larger.

Biden is no stranger to opposing bills to aid working families, the poor, the elderly, etc., he spent his career in the Senate serving the same “constituency” as Joe Manchin. As was stated by AOC, Manchin’s plans to kill legislation beneficial to average Americans was clear months ago. So no one aware of Manchin’s personal business holdings and where he placed his political loyalties should be surprised by anything Manchin says or does.

GOP leaders should thank Manchin publicly for his consistent opposition, since he was able to do what Mitch McConnell could not.

Good for Manchin, stopped the left wing jerk idiocy in its tracks, at least for the moment.

Note why Goldman did this. As it argued, this slowdown will be mainly because fiscal stimulus from the covid-19 rescue package earlier this year will wind down. Goldman projects that if BBB does not pass, that fiscal picture will be “more negative” than it might have been.

As one example, Goldman cites the expanded child tax credit, which was part of the covid relief package and now sends checks to most American families. If BBB fails, it will expire.
This blows up a key element of Manchin’s justification for opposing BBB. He says it will feed inflation and the debt, though as Jim Tankersley demonstrates, many economic experts think BBB won’t feed either.

‘A Manchin slowdown’

Indeed, Goldman’s note suggests the opposite story: Manchin is now vulnerable to the argument that the real macroeconomic risk is not to pass BBB, notes Robert Shapiro, economist and adviser to the Obama administration.
“Goldman Sachs is saying the impact on growth will be greater in not passing BBB than any marginal effect BBB might have on inflation,” said Shapiro, who recently made a much-discussed case that we’re seeing a robust recovery.

“Instead of having a Biden boom, we could have a Manchin slowdown,” Shapiro told me.

James Downie: Manchin’s rebuff of Build Back Better is the latest failure of Democrats playing soft
Could this impact the debate? Note that Manchin does not feel pressure from arguments that BBB failing will mean immiseration for his own constituents, via the failure to continue the expanded child tax credit, to expand health-care subsidies and so forth.
But Manchin does want to be seen as standing for a good economy in a more abstract sense. Manchin may not care much about the human toll and the rising odds of climate catastrophe that BBB failing might unleash. But he does know this: Inflation, spending and debt are bad.
Yet here Goldman has just recast the debate, putting Manchin on the side of slower growth. You’d think that by his lights, this is also bad.

Of course, Manchin’s inflation fearmongering is saturated in bad faith: He has reportedly been presented with reams of counter-evidence, which he ignores. So he could pretend there’s no macroeconomic risk in BBB failing. But if anything might move the debate, this might.

Inflation would be real as the BBB Bill wasn't going to be paid for and the 1.75T would have been 5T over 10 years. And, we all know
those sunset components are a myth as nothing sunsets in politics

Yeah, it's a child tax credit.

Whether you file taxes or not.

Still hasn't answered my question about how it's a feebie.

I trust GS over some internet conservative blowing smoke.

How would it increase inflation exactly according to you?

Manchin did us a favor. Much more than the dems and repubs who have blasted this country into massive debt over the past 20 years.
