Missouri House Republicans Vote To Defund Libraries

Have libraries changed a lot in the last few years.

I, and many others, have spent hours reading in the quiet, conducive environs of the public library.

The libraries I have visited in recent years are still great places to read. But, obviously, you have to check the book out to leave with it.

Thats dumb and you are dumb for saying it. Be gay all you want. I have no issue with anyone's sexuality, but you are a weirdo freak if you think children should be reading sexual content. :cuckoo:

I took my kids to the library almost every week when they were small. It continued until they started high school.

I was aware of every single book they read in the library and that they checked out. If parents would step up, it would help.

We are talking about elementary school libraries. He thinks 8 year olds should have access to comics showing gay boys having oral sex. He says some kids hit puberty at that age, so its cool.

Are you actually saying we should not provide internet access in a library because of porn & Netflix?

Did I actually say that?

There's this new thing ALL the kids are doing called "The Internet". It's fast, cheap, and always available anywhere.

The need for public libraries has been greatly diminished by this technology.

With it, anyone can find all the information and entertainment they could ever want, without bothering to learn The Dewey Decimal System or using a card catalogue.

We should at least ask the question as to the utility of funding large public buildings and collections of books and media that can be found instantly in the comfort, and privacy, of our own homes.

You are a scumbag for wanting to push sexual content onto elementary school children. Its creepy as fuck. Just go away man. No one wants to hear that shit.
Since you resort to name-calling it's more likely you are the scumbag if there is one. You don't give educators and the youth to know what is in their best interest. That's sad.

When you said "They can get their porn and Netflix at home", you at least implied it.

Yes, there is a huge amount of data available online. If you can get online. Not everyone (granted most do) have access.

And being able to get data, without context, is not nearly as good as having the whole picture. The library is the center of intellectual growth for many kids. What we spend on "...large public buildings and collections of books and media" is a drop in the bucket compared to the good it does.

No, it's not cool; it's age appropriate. Only gay kids would access it. Do you really think straight kids would read those books, they'd rather be caught dead than read them.

Should we shut down all places where someone may have exposed themselves or does this only apply to libraries?

Parks? Schools? Churches? Theatres?

Was that your point or did you just want to show an example of websites you frequent?
I just posted a link to a news story. Didn’t add any opinions of mine to it. Sorry it triggered you so. Was that you in the picture or something?

Ignorance always evokes a strong opinion from the sane and educated public.

The need for science and technology centers are needed more than ever and the libraries are the logical venue for that. At least forward thinking people believe that to be true. Every library in Omaha, Nebraska has been updated to include this.

Libraries are still essential in schools; they are changing, they include science and technology centers now. I visit our city library at least once a week.
My guess is they will soon be converting it to a migrant shelter. Watch where you step.

Such a negative attitude, life must be difficult for you. I was born and raised in a depressed area ( Scranton, Pa. ). I am lucky, I joined the Air Force 50+ years ago and found a wonderful city ( despite being in a Republican majority state ) and made it my home. People actually care about one another here and the city and state are prosperous because we take care of our most important assets, the people themselves and no credence is given to wether you were born here or immigrated here. People are valued for who they are and what they contribute. Our wealthiest people are the most philanthropic in the nation, giving back, making life here even better. Sorry you are so unhappy with life. But that's on you, only you can change your circumstances and perspectives so you can get out of life at least as much as you put into it
