Noah and his boat -

Danged inconvenient facts.

Anyone seen the movie?

Considering the alternative to boarding, and the complaint department being at the end of the pier, next to the PETA Office, do ya truly want to go there? Sink or swim, dude. ;)

At the time, there were only 14 species on earth, all living in the Levant.

So that made it easier.

Well the birth defects alone from only having one pair to re-start with might explain the "evolving".
the myth say forty days and nights of rain..so how long would the ark crew have to wait for the oceans to subside and the land leech out enough salt to be arable again?
or did god just miracle it back the way it was minus all the people?

So...what would have been wrong with all the other boats in existance at that time? Rafts, barges, etc.

the ark was the first .....people just body surfed or floated on logs before then...

1) The animals could have been very young. The Bible doesn't say that they had to be full grown.
2) It's very possible that God put the animals into a state of hibernation or semi-hibernation which would have required less food.
3) I don't believe that the measurements used during the time of Noah are undoubtedly known today. It's possible that a "cubit" was a larger unit of measure then than what is believed today.

PBS miscalculated.

The volume of the ark would be 450 feet long by 75 feet wide by 45 feet high. This equals 1,518,750 cubic feet and is comparable to 569 modern railroad boxcars. Therefore each boxcar, by comparison, would be 1,518,750 divided by 569, or 2,669 cubic feet of space. The average size of an animal on the earth is smaller than a cat. But, just to keep it safe let's consider the average size of an animal to be a sheep. The average double deck stock car holds 240 sheep. The Ark capacity would be about 569 x 240 equaling 136,560 animals of that size. However, that still is not accurate for our needs. Since most birds, reptiles, and amphibians are much smaller, let's double the boxcar capacity for them. Therefore, the boxcars could each hold 480 different kinds of birds, reptiles, amphibians.

The total number of boxcars used would be 318 with a total number of animals at 145,400. There would be 251 boxcars left over. That means that only 56% of the ark would be used for storing the animals. Obviously, then, the rest of the space would be used for food for the people and animals and sleeping quarters. In addition, considering that insects are extremely small, it is easily conceivable that they could be housed in part of the remaining space.

It's actually worse than that. Dunno where the two of each kind comes from but it's completely wrong:

"Gen. vii. 2-3, 8, where it is said that Noah took into the ark seven and seven, male and female, of all kinds of clean beasts and fowls, and two and two, male and female, of all kinds of beasts and fowls that are not clean."
CLEAN AND UNCLEAN ANIMALS - JewishEncyclopedia.com

In other words 7 pairs of clean, and 2 pairs of unclean. Not just 1 pair. People are so lazy. For a population that loves to say how they've read the Bible, you'd think such a glaring error woulda been rectified.

I always wondered

How did Noah keep fresh water fish on the Ark? They would not survive the flood

You seem to be conveniently ignoring the fact that most of those species are acquatic. But then that's what you get when you just copy and paste a picture without taking any independent thought. If you had, you might have noticed that the picture is wrong on at least one detail and could be wrong on others.

Even if 90% the species were aquatic, that still leaves some 600,000 animals to see to.

gosh I wonder if any of those have evolved since then?.....lets see....if they only needed two beetles, that eliminates what, another 37,000?

Guess a lot of them died, but nature has a way of recovering. I'm sure not all of that water was ocean water. It was fresh water. Rain has little or no salt in it.

What about something like a flounder, crab or catfish that lives on the bottom?

Add 20,000 feet of water on top of them and they would not survive

why do you need 20k feet of water?.....

you know the old saying, "if there's no one around to fall on, does a tree need to fall in the woods?".........
