oh god, New law in Illinois requires barbers to take a course in domestic abuse.

I've already stated my feelings on this law, and I think it's a good one.

Now on to the discussion of barber vs. stylist. I've been to both, and can readily tell you the difference between the two.

At a barbershop, you can get a haircut, shave, or a beard trim.

At a stylist, you can get a haircut, shave, beard trim, perm, hair coloring or shampoo.

Generally, stylist places will wash your hair before cutting it. I've never been to a barbershop that did. And, in most barbershops that I've been to, if you ask them about stuff like perms and getting your hair colored, they will laugh at you and tell you the ladies shop is down the road.
