"Rational" Republicans Threaten Third-Party if Cheney's Replaced.

The Evil Deep State Swamp Commies™ will have conspired with the Chinese Venezuelan Hitlers™ to bring The Great & Brilliant President™ down in the biggest scandal in the history of historical histories, even bigger than The Steal™.
I know you're right, but I think it's a fight that can't be ignored.
For all his psychotic behavior, Trump revealed a great deal about the role white supremacy has played and continues to play in America. Personally I wonder how willing elite DC Democrats are to vigorously prosecute Don the Con considering how much money Trump has donated to that party over the past decades. For example, will Trump be subpoenaed and compelled to testify under oath in any public hearing?

Litigation Tracker: Pending Criminal and Civil Cases Against Donald Trump

"On both the criminal and civil litigation fronts, former President Donald Trump faces a bevy of lawsuits and investigations, with more cases likely to follow. Some are civil suits stemming from his pre-presidential business dealings.

"Others are defamation claims from women he allegedly assaulted. More still are criminal probes and civil actions that scrutinize his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

"The Chart below tracks all these cases.

"It will be continually updated as major legal developments occur."

For those who thought they would never care about who was the third most important House Republican, Liz Cheney's expected ouster from her leadership position has inspired 100 former Republican leaders drop a letter tomorrow (Thursday 5/13) saying if their party does not separate itself from the former president, they will form a third party:
The Whigs Collapsed Over Slavery. Could the GOP Over Trump?

‘Rationals’ vs. ‘radicals’: Anti-Trump Republicans threaten third party

"The letter, headlined: 'A Call For American Renewal,' is an exploratory move toward forming a breakaway party, two of its organizers said.

"The group is dismayed by what it says is a modern Republican Party driven by its allegiance to Trump, who continues to falsely claim the 2020 election was stolen from him..."

"A spokesman for Trump, Jason Miller, said: 'These losers left the Republican Party when they voted for Joe Biden.'

"Evan McMullin, a former chief policy director for the House Republican Conference and an independent presidential candidate in 2016, said if the Republican Party does not reject lies and extremism, part of it 'will have no choice but to part ways with it and build something new. We’re excited about that prospect.'"

Imho, if four years of Biden has the same effect on Democrats as Trump has had on Republicans, the US may finally get rid of its two-party political monopoly.

"'The Republican Party is broken. It's time for a resistance of the 'rationals' against the 'radicals,'" said Miles Taylor, one of the organizers.

"Taylor, while serving in the Trump White House, wrote an anonymous opinion piece in the New York Times in 2018 headlined: 'I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.'

"The group first raised the threat in February, following the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters to try to disrupt congressional certification of Democrat Joe Biden's presidential election victory."

‘Rationals’ vs. ‘radicals’: Anti-Trump Republicans threaten third party

It would make a lot more sense just for the moderates to expel the 75 million Little Trumpsters and take the GOP back over. Maybe nominate Romney again, or Kasich or General Colin Powell in 2024- or perhaps even JEB!.
The 2020 Election by the Numbers

"The Popular Vote

"Biden won 81,283,098 votes, or 51.3 percent of the votes cast. He is the first U.S. presidential candidate to have won more than 80 million votes. Trump won 74,222,958 votes, or 46.8 percent of the votes cast. That’s more votes than any other presidential candidate has ever won, with the exception of Biden. (Third-party candidates picked up 1.8 percent of the votes cast.)"

What makes you think a majority of 2020 Republican voters will side with Trump in 2024 (assuming he's not in prison by that time)?

The republicans will be just fine when they rid their ranks of swamp creatures and rinos. You democrats seem more interested in the internal workings of the GOP than you are of your own dysfunctional POS party. Why is that? What do you have to gain other than keeping plants in the opposition party.

Yeah, I'm sure he lined their pockets pretty well. And now that you mention that, he's certainly not above the "if I'm going down, you're going down with me" movie line.

But this flood of legal activity doesn't have me convinced. I made assumptions about 2016 and I'm not doing that again. I dunno. I'll have an eye on it, but only so much.

And this stuff isn't the problem. HE'S not the problem. This is a sociological/cultural issue that won't go away regardless of any court cases. And it's clearly metastasizing. Look, for example, at what GQP election officials are doing in the states.

And in DC...

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans are poised to block the creation of a special commission to study the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, dashing hopes for a bipartisan panel amid a GOP push to put the violent insurrection by Donald Trump’s supporters behind them."

The "Grim Reaper" is planning to filibuster the creation of a bipartisan commission to uncover facts related to events of January 6th. It does make one wonder what Republicans are afraid would come to light in such an investigation.

Trump is a symptom in the sense he's the venal crony-capitalist who found a way to cut out the corrupt political middle-men (and women), yet if he doesn't die in prison, the next malignant authoritarian in the White House will do far more damage.

Well, that's a lot of the problem.

Trump left the bar pretty low. VERY low. In fact, he TOOK the bar. The next Trump could be far more intelligent, temperamentally gifted and politically resourceful. These people represent an ugly minority of the country, but they're hyperactive in a political sense. That's a real concern.

We'll see what this new party stands for, but it's hard to see how it could be worse than Trump's Crazy Train.

No doubt their first priority is to somehow, magically, break this spell that Trump has on his flock so that some smarter voices can prevail. But I don't know how the hell they get from there from here, and I don't think they do, either.

So yeah, the only other option is to rip off the scab and split up the party. That puts the GOP in the wilderness for a while, and that's dangerous as hell.

Republicans represent that ugly minority which apparently believes democracy has outlived its usefulness in this country. If 30% of US voters identify as Republican and 60% of them believe Trump won in 2020, that's a significant number of Americans willing to embrace a more competent brand of fascism.

Senate Republicans block January 6 commission

"A crucial Senate vote on a bill to create an independent inquiry to investigate the deadly January 6 Capitol Hill riot failed Friday, falling short of the 10 Republican votes needed to advance and illustrating GOP efforts to move on from the insurrection that left five people dead and injured 140 police officers.

"The vote was 54 to 35, showing the bill had a bipartisan majority of support with six Republicans voting with Democrats. However, the bill needed 60 votes to advance. The six GOP senators who backed the bill were: Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Rob Portman of Ohio, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Ben Sasse of Nebraska. Nine Republican senators and two Democrats didn't vote."

That is a real shame. The commission is dead. The only purpose it had was to hurt Trump and his supporters. Hate on the federal level.

Nine democrats who have infiltrated the republican party. They won't be there for long. RINOs

independent inquiry to investigate the deadly January 6 Capitol Hill riot
A protest is not a riot. Deadly? The only person who died as a result of the protest was an UNARMED, female, US veteran who was summarily executed (MURDERED) for trespass by a democrat-controlled, black, capitol cop who is being hidden from accountability. If it had been a BLM RIOTER in WA that was killed by a white cop--a pound of flesh would be demanded. ALL LIVES MATTER--SAY HER NAME! ASHLII BABBITT.

The independent, bipartisan national commission to investigate the events of January 6th is dead, but there's no way timid Republicans will bury any evidence of Trump's role in inciting insurrection. In fact, a select committee would not be subject to the same time limitations as the national commission would have been:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/03/09/senate-seats-up-2022/

"Fourth, a select committee would have at least until the end of 2022 to operate.

"As written, the national commission legislation contemplates the commission terminating no later than December 31, 2021, mere months away."

How many RINOs are going to prison for tax fraud?
Republicans are 25% of all registered voters, and they will lose even more support when Trump does his perp walk.

"From Gallup comes news that its regular polling on party affiliation shows the largest quarterly gap in major party affiliation since 2012, with 49 percent of U.S. adults identifying themselves as either Democrats (30 percent) or as Democratic-leaning independents (19 percent), while 40 percent call themselves Republicans (25 percent) or Republican-leaning independents (15 percent)."

Your Big Lie won't work this time:
These are all the federal crimes Trump extremists could be charged with after their attack on the US Capitol

5ff6d947d184b30018aad747

"The attempted insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 could be the most documented crime in U.S. history. Surveillance and law enforcement body cameras captured more than 15,000 hours of footage.

"The federal government has snagged some 1,600 electronic devices, each likely teeming with electronic communications.

"Citizens from across the country have flooded the FBI with more than 270,000 tips, which include videos, photos and social media posts.

"And the rioters themselves extensively captured their exploits on camera, posting hours of digital evidence of the rampage. Thanks to that torrent of evidence, more than 370 suspects have been arrested on charges related to the insurrection."

The Capitol Attack Was the Most Documented Crime in History. Will That Ensure Justice?
