I don't think Ukraine can ever be a victory for Putin. If he takes the country, he's left with a country in utter ruin, whole cities leveled, requiring a massive Marshall Plan sized rebuilding effort that the Russians don't have the money for.And that is exactly what he is trying to do. He wants to go out in glory...instead he is going out as a failure.

I'm figuring the information comes straight from the Kremlin, either through having people inside Russia, or from NSA elint intercepts of Russian communications.
