And who's gonna pay for it? Oh, wait, let me guess. Somebody else?
Employers, as in other countries where people live a better quality of life than Americans do.

Would it shock you to consider that whether or not I get a paid vacation is between me and my employer, and none of the government's business?

Exactly.

My vacation is part of employment agreement. My employer wanted to hire me, they gave me an offer, rate, vacation, paid holidays, benefits. I made counter offer, we settled for 3 weeks as start, effective on day of hire. I probably could get extra week in exchange for couple of bucks from my rate, but I didn't wanna push since I can take unpaid leave.

And who's gonna pay for it? Oh, wait, let me guess. Somebody else?

Of course, it always comes out of somebody else's pocket.

IME there is nothing wrong with considering what is being proposed.

I have worked on projects where Italian companies were going to deliver material goods. One problem...you can't find them in August. Sounds good to me.

But I have to wonder what it is like to live in a country where everyone clears out at the same time. You're off...and so is everyone else. I have to wonder if you can even go out to dinner.

He can propose anything he wants, especially when it's not coming out of his pocket. All those socialist ideas have only one purpose, and that is buying votes from "good for fucking nothing" people. Don't get me wrong, I also want vacation, but its up to me to earn it first.

These ideas, like forced vacation, or $15 minimum wage will only hurt those who are meant to help. If I run the business, and government force me to give to worker more then he/she deserve, I would not be hiring full time, but offer contract work. That way, I don't have to pay any benefits, payroll taxes, vacation... Let worker worry about all those.

I once purchased a container of materials from an Italian manufacturer. It almost put me out of business. Eat Italian food, enjoy their museums and beautiful countryside, but do not conduct business with them.

Who's going to pay for it? Your employer. It's part of the cost of doing business. They're the people who are benefitting from your labour.

Workers who take vacations are more alert, more productive. They come back refreshed and energized.

It's always laughable to me that Republicans, who promote themselves as the party of family values, don't promote vacations, maternity and family leave. They oppose the ACA, early childhood education and more money for education - while sending their own kids to private schools.

Republicans oppose any measures to help families.

How does unemployment help families?
You understand that "employers" do not pay for vacations, right? Consumers pay for them in the form of higher prices. Or workers pay for them in form of lower overall compensation. But business cannot and will not pay for them.
No, you dont understand that. You think all businesses have enormous stashes of cash hidden in the preseident's office just waiting to be spent.
Because you're ignorant.

While I am not a fan of republicans, it's laughable when someone says they want to "help" families.

Why don't you tells us what "help" looks like ?

More vacation time ? Does what ?

Please...I am sure you have study after study that shows how other workers are more productive and it is directly linked to vacations.

Looking forward to your links.

Venezuela? Cuba?

All authoritarian shitholes... I think you fucks should move there since you think they are so wonderful.

What can you expect for $20. a month?
Average salary in Cuba rose 1 pct last year to 20 a month Fox News Latino
I'm sure the Right likes this idea for the US.
The thing with cuba is...
  • Cubans get free food allowances and are allowed to purchase additional rations of staple foods at cost price from government run bodegas and depots.
  • Cuban utility bills are all highly subsidized. The monthly phone, electricity, and gaz bill is only about $2, which is basically nothing when compared to western bills.
  • All medical coverage is provided free by the government.
  • Gasoline is sold as subsidized costs.
  • Education is completely free, even for older people wanting to return to school just for a few classes.
  • Beer, alcohol, food is all sold by the state at cost or near cost.
  • Rental rates for properties are controlled and most Cubans own their own homes.
  • Property taxes and goods and service taxes are zero.
""And in Cuba, it’s not all about money. We can look at some of the other benefits that the average Cuban enjoys. The World Health Organization rates Cuba’s water quality as among the best in the world and ranks its citizens nutrition levels, health and life expectancy as among the best. Despite the average Cuban salary being about $30 per month, it is just enough for the average person to cover all their expenses and to enjoy a few outings with their friends once a month. The lifestyle is not that different from the average westerner. There are less comforts and fewer high end products (no large screen TVs or deluxe computers), but overall, Cubans are far better off than some of the poor African countries where people starve to death daily.
Despite the average wage in Cuba looking like it is extremely low by western standards, we must now factor in the actual cost of living in Cuba. As most people know, Cuba does not have a capitalist economic system. We can take a look at economic subsidies to see how they influence buying power for the average Cuban.""

So in your mind cuba is utopia? So when are you moving?
I never said cuba is a utopia, I'm simply examining the facts, and when you compare cuba to capitalist haiti, or listen to the WHO on cuba/etc, you begin to see a picture being painted.

You call haiti a capitalist country?:uhh:
So you DON"T know what capitalism is? lol

So I guess cuba and north korea are the same?

Very telling that when someone discusses "work", they immediately jump to discussing "time off".

This is fantastic.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wants to give Americans a paid vacation, as part of a "family values" agenda he outlined Thursday.

Sanders, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination, said he is introducing a bill, the Guaranteed Paid Vacation Act, that would give 10 days of paid vacation to every employee that had worked for an employer for at least one year. The legislation would apply to employers with at least 15 employees.

"What family values are about is that at least for two weeks a year, people can come together under a relaxed environment and enjoy the family," Sanders said from the Senate floor. "That is a family value that I want to see happen in this country."

The legislation is part of the senator's "family values agenda." As part of the agenda, he also backed legislation that would give an employee 12 weeks of paid leave if they have a child or serious medical condition, as well as a separate bill that would give workers up to seven paid sick days.

On his support for paid sick leave, Sanders added, "I am not crazy about the idea of somebody who is sick coming to to work, preparing the food that I eat in a restaurant."

While Republicans had previously discussed "family values," Sanders said that "generally speaking, what they mean by family values is opposition to a woman's right to choose, opposition to contraception, opposition to gay rights."

People already get paid vacations. At the employers expense.

They won't be happy until they get 365 days per year paid vacation.
