"abuse" might have been the wrong word choice but I guess I meant people who would simply take advantage of the $1,000 versus the people who need it for actual financial survival due to this crisis.

They would be taking advantage by accepting money that they know they don't necessarily need. Money that is meant for people who are facing financial impacts by either losing their job or losing pay because of coronavirus. It would be an integrity issue for me.

Today, as I have done for the past 2 months, I got up, had a shower, cooked some rice and ate it, went to work, did my work, went home, posted some stuff, watched a few programs, and went to bed.

Nothing has changed. Nothing.

I don't know anyone with Corona, don't know anyone who died of Corona, nothing at work has changed, went to the store last night, and bought some goods I needed. No problems. No issues. Nothing has changed.

I've heard a lot of irrational bovine scatology on "solutions" that involve money in the past week.. Not many have any usefulness... What they SHOULD be doing is...

1) Shoring up unemployment insurance. Making it easier/faster to apply as well.
2) Temporary increase in Food, Energy, etc handouts.
3) TARGETED grants to NGOs, non-profits other more LOCALLY CONNECTED help sources...

A one-time check is not the answer.. Doing it TWO times would push us off the cliff. A FICA HOLIDAY is thank God no longer a possibility.. THat's the most MORONIC suggestion I heard.. THink that came from the Dems.. People LAID OFF -- don't NEED a FICA holiday.. Neither do the bankrupted early Medicare/Soc Sec funds...

Instead of $1000 to everyone, why not $10,000 to the people who really need it? Send it to those who lost their jobs due to the virus, small businesses that were forced to shut down, those who have to take care of sick members of their family

The money would certainly help a lot of Americans that are not working right now and are struggling to pay bills and buy groceries, especially service workers that rely on tips more than they do an actual wage or salary. The amount of people it would help would outweigh the people that will abuse the $1,000 or don't need it as badly as others but a one size fits all approach like that may not be as efficient. In my personal opinion having large amounts of loans sent to small and medium size businesses around the country so that they can continue to meet payroll and pay people while at home would be ideal. I would also suspend federal income tax temporarily so that people are taking home a little more money each week. Just a thought.

I would support putting a hold on payroll tax. Its about the only constitutional thing they can do.

That and wave / forgive any tax debt to small businesses and individuals who meet certain criteria. Especially, any interest on 401K's or any other retirement savings.

But seriously, just giving people money may not really increase consumption, and that is the aim. We're looking at possibly best case 30-40% unemployment if we "shelter in place." I'm better placed to weather this job wise than most, but if I get a thousand bucks, I'm saving it because my wife's car has 200plusK and we'll need a new computer in it soon. I've already spent a chunk of cash on my kid's education, and am still spending. So I'm not even close to rolling in dough. But the people who will really spend any stimulus immediately are the soon to be unemployed. To the extent we can, we need to make up their pay checks, and make it possible for the small biz owners who will have to close up to have the ability to reopen 3-6 mos down the line.

I lived through it. Hurrican Rita. I personally tried to get into Wal-Mart in Galveston Texas after the first checks went out and there were big screen TV cartons strewn abut the parking lot as they loaded them into buggies and pushed them down the road jabbering and grinning.

The checks go to people who have proven to be incompetent with money already. But I guess thats the point. Its really a handout to corporations via people who have no sense of delayed gratification. If these checks go out again it will be the same...cellphones and TVs.

Well, it just seems to me that the people who made and served the Caesar salad I had two weeks ago, and the people at my favorite hamburger dive, are not going to have jobs shortly, and they will miss their rent and have food insecurity. They have a need that is not because they can't manage money or don't work. And, the whole point of having safety net programs, and even soc sec to an extent, is to make sure that we continue to have consumer demand during recessions so that the entire economy doesn't crash.

That is the real problem. They are closing businesses without a valid reason.

We can keep the at-risk group of people away from the public (these are the retirees and those with health issues) and continue on business as usual.
