How Will We Pay For This Massive Hurricane and Tropical Storm in Texas?

How the heck are we going to pay for the powerful Hurricane and tropical storm that has devasted Texas and may cause even more damage in neighboring states? There have been some huge numbers being discussed, but how will we know until it is all over? How will the expenses effect the budget, taxes, etc.?

Texas can take care of itself. People are helping each other out. It's a stark contrast to what happened in NO. This storm makes NO look like a walk in the park and yet the citizens have come together and helped each other out. We saw what generational welfare liberalism was in NO.
Does that mean you guys are turning away all the donations and telling the feds you don't need billions of dollars in aid and help? That is amazing. Do you have a link or anything to back up that nonsense or are you just bullshyting stuff from you delusional brain.

I'm glad Texas is doing well keeping up with the destruction, but patting them on the back for doing better than NO is downright ignorant. First response on every level learned from what happened in New Orleans during Katrina and although a thousand people had to die in order to teach that lesson, Texas and every disaster since Katrina has benefited from a response effort that was ready and waiting before the storm even hit.

Im down here. No one got caught with there pants down. Everyone knew that it could be bad. I saw the preparations firsthand last wednesday. People are helping each other out.

It will be sucked out of the rest of us just like everything else. These are our peeps and we have to do this.

Infrastructure has been destroyed or compromised

Will take years to rebuild

It will take time to rebuild all the houses but as far as the infrastucture, its still intact. Reservoirs are releasing at full capacity, highways and interstates are all under water but that will recede.

Flooding undermines a lot of infrastructure that you do not see right away

Any schools, hospitals, public buildings flooded?

Most under water, yes and you're right, will take awhile to rebuild.

I'm just wondering why they didn't have at least voluntary evacuations of the low lying areas of Houston that predictably flood during really heavy rains? Not trying to criticize. Just wondering why.

You mean a state which is full of Republicans who think healthcare should all be about insurance? Shouldn't Texas just get the money from their insurance?

People are losing homes, jobs and life

But we can always count on the alt-left to bring politics into everything.

Sorry OL, I gotcha. There were some voluntary evacuations. Some thought, as always, that it wouldn't be this bad. That aside, I thought the mayor and governor did just fine. Most people stayed and they accepted those consequences by helping each other. No one is to blame. There were only two drowning deaths and one of those could have been avoided if the lady had stayed in her car. If for just this fleeting moment, its nice to see people extending their hand and caring for each other.

I saw this and the owners of that nursing home have some explaining to do. How could they just leave all of those elderly and handicapped people there in waist deep water? They had plenty of time to make alternative arrangements for those people. They should have evacuation plans for these kinds of events at EVERY nursing home/school/etc.

I agree.

If people are so irresponsible that they live in these dangerous areas then that is their business. They are free to do so but not at my Goddam expense dammit. Its UnAmerican.

You are UnAmerican, so STFU you Welsh sheep-shagger.

Leftist Welsh talking about "UnAmerican" Pwahahahahaha!

Its something that I applaud. Socialism in action.

God is showing you that no man is an island. You need to come together as a community when some of you are in trouble.

We all benefit from that, society benefits, its socialism.
No one benefits from socialism. Helping others is charity. Being forcibly deprived of your services or property is socialism.

Stop with the we all need to come together as a community garbage. We don't need to do anything but shit after breakfast.

This is hilarious.

When people are losing their lives because they can't get healthcare, many on the right are unsympathetic. They demand health insurance so people can leech of the healthcare industry. They want the poorest to not be able to get this healthcare. When Trump says he wants to change healthcare to make 24 million people lose coverage, the right are joyful.

When people are losing their homes and their jobs to bad recessions, the right right don't demand that regulation come in. In fact when Trump says he's getting rid of such regulations that would limit recessions like this, there are many on the right who are joyful.

Then you have the audacity to turn around and say that the left want to bring politics into everything. I'm sorry, what the FUCK are you talking about? You bring politics into everything and then when it's inconvenient for your argument, you try and pull that trick out of the book "don't talk about this, because it's insensitive", when you'd have no fucking problem talking about it when it's about people dying because they can't get health coverage, or they're losing everything so some billionaire can make a few more billions.

Ah, the "we're all individuals, we don't need the govt." As JFK (Janet Fucking Kock) said "Ask not what you can do for your country - ask what your country can do for you" .....
