If you pack the court to 400 judges to get a majority, the nanosecond the Democrats leave the Oval a Republican will appoint 800 judges to swing it back. Have some fucking respect for the institution. I get the political gamesmanship but this is 1/3 of the federal government...surely you don't jack around with the crown jewel of the system. You have successfully argued that it is OK for the GOP to deny Obama hundreds of judicial appointments while forcing a 6-3 conservative SC onto a nation that is 6-3 liberal when it comes to issues that the court is soon going to decide.

There is a good argument ( namely that one judge has too much fucking power ) for expanding the SC court to 27 judges with revolving case assignments, returning the prospect of an impartial court to the land of reality.

I never made any such argument. I did argue that expanding the number of judges on the Supreme court is the dumbest idea that has bubbled up to the surface in national politics in a long time. This would affect the structure of the courts. And, unlike proposed legislation, court rulings are not negotiated. Whether you can get married or not....that can be decided. Can you go to school at that university and get the same education someone of a different color gets? That is decided.



So the courts shouldn't be treated like this.

I would love to hear your "good" argument for expanding the supreme court to 27 justices. I can assure you it's not a good argument.

But what isn't being talked about is this...why stop at the Supreme court? Why not just create a bunch of new districts in the Federal Courts. Another 200-300 federal judgeships.
