Mississippi's Black community was incensed earlier this week after state lawmakers proposed to create a separate justice system within the city of Jackson that would overrule the majority Black city council and put a large swath of the local justice system completely in the hands of state officials, all of whom are white.

As reported by Mississippi Today, the legislation would allow the state's white chief justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court, its white attorney general, and the white state public safety commissioner to appoint new judges, new prosecutors, new public defenders and new police officers to oversee a new district in the city encompassing all of the city's majority-white neighborhoods, effectively creating a separate justice system for whites in what is statistically considered the Blackest city in America.

And it would do so without any of those officials receiving a single vote of support from any resident from Jackson, 80 percent of whom are Black.
"It reminds me of apartheid," Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba told the website Tuesday.

Newsweek has contacted Lumumba for comment, as well as all three of the bill's principal sponsors, who claimed on the floor of the Mississippi Legislature that the foremost aim of the bill was "public safety" amid concerns of crime rates in Jackson.

However, some legal observers described the effort by the Mississippi Legislature as an attempt by white conservative politicians to erode the Black vote in a way that had not been seen since the Jim Crow era.

The African American communities need to make a decision whether they want police or not. Why keep wasting resources when we can cut the money spent as per taxes. It is terrible when simple services decline like fresh water becomes a luxury in mismanaged government that then lames others for their ineptitude. The Village is forming in more and more areas. 2. It seems that Jackson is crime-ridden.

3. A few Caucasians still live there. (State capital employees?)

4. So it seems that the Caucasians would feel more comfortable if the African American folks deal with African American judges and cops, and Caucasian folks deal with Caucasian judges and cops.

Jackson is the capital city of Mississippi. The state legislature meets there and presumably it’s governor resides there. Accordingly the state government can vote to assume state control of its security.

Calling this segregation just because a racebaiting black mayor is whining about being overridden due to failure is just more grandstanding bullshit.

I am sure the mayor of DC would whine the same way if Congress did what they should do and fire her stupid ass and eliminate the entire incompetent, useless local government there, assuming direct control.

The "Great Migration" was due to economic conditions as hundreds of thousands of southerner- mostly but not exclusively of the black race- move to the rust belt to pursue economic opportunities after immigration from Europe was virtually shut down.

It had nothing to do with Jim Crow, as the libs imposed racial segregation in both the North as well as the South.

Actually, most of the migration is heading the opposite direction as jobs leave the North ruled by people like Pritzker , Schumer and Fetterman as they seek to destroy the economy in the north through liberalism.
