We Have No Business in Syria

It is very clear that constant war abroad leads to less freedom at home. Most Americans don't know this fundamental truth.

Using the Constitution to denigrate military intervention, does not work. The Constitution has long been ignored and is no longer the law of the land.
Less freedom for us.

More of our tax money into the pockets of the Military Industrial Complex.

So less taxes equates to more freedom. Interesting, please expound.

While what happened to those people in Syria is tragic, it is not our fight and never has been. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say our military is to be used as the guardian of the planet and a lot of people in this country are getting sick of it. Aside from Afghanistan, we haven't fought one war in the defense of our nation since WWII. Every other war we have entered into has been a choice to fight someone else's and countless lives have been lost over the years.

Furthermore, we have been interfering in the affairs of the Middle East for over 70 years and all we've done is make things worse. We are responsible for the rise of Khomeini in Iran. We are responsible for the existence of ISIS in Iraq and we will be responsible for which ever radical Muslim extremist takes over Syria if we depose Assad. These people have been slaughtering each other for 5,000 years and we aren't going to change it. All we have had done is made ourselves a terrorist target and watched our civil liberties and Constitutional rights erode as a result.
Attacking Afghanistan wasn't a defensive war. Afghans never attacked us. It's like attacking Italy because the Mafia import drugs into the US.
You ever hear of the Twin Towers?

One can make a strong argument that Afghan was a waste too. We are still there 16 years after 9/11. WTF. Why? Bin laden and his kooky followers were responsible not the entire nation of Afghanistan.

When my father joined the military he told me that his philosophy was that he'd rather have a rifle in his hands and confronting the enemy on their land rather than being empty handed when they were on his shores.

Not only is it morally important to stand up to bullies and those who abuse their own citizens, but if you don't, one day you may find that these crazies in North Korea, Iran and even China one day because dangers if not dealt with in one form or another. You can be sure, today's isolated nutjobs become tomorrows International threats.

To me this was the proper response for a number of reasons, not the least of which is to send a message to the world that America will not have it's interest and security placed in harm to appease the crazies in the UN. It wasn't a declaration of war, it isn't a massive invasion, it was using a number of tomahawk missles. North Korea has outright threatened to one day drop a nuke on America, now THAT"S a serious declaration if you ask me. Considering the iron fist that North Korea has been under for so long with vast support from the second largest economy in the world, this guy can't be taken lightly. As for Assad, I think this will be a waiting game/intelligence war to decide what the best course of action is in the future.

Unfortunately, most Americans are incredibly gullible. They'll believe anything their Government/Corporate Media tells them. There was likely a bombing, but it's very unlikely it involved Chemical Weapons.

It's a classic Wag the Dog False Flag event. Assad was winning, and peace was at hand. The 'Regime Change' bastards couldn't have that. So they carried out this farce. When will folks wake up? They're being duped again.

What happened to Hamlet was tragic, but what is happening in Syria is an offense to any sense of decency we may have. And what is happening in Syria does directly effect the US and its allies. Because of the wars in Syria and Iraq Europe is being flooded with refugees who are already threatening to bring down the EU, and if this fighting spreads to the Gulf oil states it will negatively effect the global economy and that will negatively effect the US economy. What will our options be then? Much worse than they are now.

"but what is happening in Syria is an offense to any sense of decency we may have."

Where has this um decency been during the Darfur Genocide, why didn't you bomb Sudan to STOP the 250,000 plus people INCLUDING children and babies in Darfur being hacked to death by machetes?

OR does your decency ONLY apply to um "Protecting Your Interest" in the Middle East?

"And what is happening in Syria does directly effect the US and its allies. Because of the wars in Syria and Iraq Europe is being flooded with refugees"

So explain WHY the "poor refugees" are also coming from Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia, Nigeria, Eritrea, Sri Lanka, Algeria, DR Congo etc WHAT do ALL of those nations have to do with what's happening in Syria and Iraq? When for example were for example Sri Lanka and Nigeria geographically EVER EVEN in the Middle East?

Never that's when.
You can go back even further and say we should have taken steps to end the genocide in Rwanda, but we depended on the UN in those days. I'm not sure what we could have bombed to stop people from being hacked to death with machetes in Darfur but if we missed opportunities to do stop it, we should be ashamed of not acting. However, I don't understand why you think the fact that we didn't act in the past when we should have makes it ok to allow the slaughter to go on in Syria today.

Again, you seem to be saying that the fact there are also refugees trying to get into Europe from other countries make it ok for millions of people in Syria and Iraq to become refugees.

You seem to be trying to justify not taking action to stop atrocities today because we failed to take such actions in the past.

It's the only military action that can even remotely be termed "defensive", as per the OP.

Not our fights. We need to adopt a humble foreign policy. Our Founding Fathers would not approve of this insane aggressive foreign interventionism.

Guess what. Evil eventually goes after you when it feels ready.

My mistake. Apologies.

The rules say you should go to congress first.

But congress have allowed the prez to do whatever going back to at least Reagan days .

Congress doesn't have the Balls to make the decision, so they look the other way.
They told Obama he could not do just what Trump did.

We were far from innocent of the "evil" in 1940 Europe:

Yeah but in fairness, Obama bombed and killed at will. He never did go to Congress. He wasn't prevented from carrying out his numerous slaughters. Neither was Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, and so on. But it doesn't make it right. They all should have gone to Congress.

I agree, but we aren't invading Syria. We dropped bombs on Muslims that got out of line. I agree that we should care less what Muslim dictator rules over Muslims in the Middle East. As far as I know, Trump has not called for "regime change". He just sent a message to those barbarians. Trust me, the only way to make those barbarians understand who is in charge is to use a big club and wack it over their head.
