They have five times the population.

The people that are not included in China now live in ways we would puke in. The people included see their lower middle class ways as heaven as they work like slaves. About the same amount of people included are the population of our nation. We are like imperial Rome living lives of opulence and depravity compared to what they are as we were at one time. They can include three times more people then are included as they grow. But they still need us to provide the spark as we use the products they produce. At some point they will not need us. It is closer rather then much further down the line. The first wave of a war will destroy much hardware. We can not produce hardware as fast as they can as what we used to do. Therefore we will capitulate or go nuclear.

Taiwan has done nothing over the last 70 years but prepare for a Chinese invasion. They have state of the art defensive systems.

A naval invasion is not easy. Think D Day in WWII.
Thousands of ships and complete surprise and still a great loss of life.
China cannot surprise anyone, Taiwan would know weeks in advance that an invasion is coming. Taiwan has state of the art anti-ship missiles, mines and submarines. They have modern aircraft and shore defenses. Those ships and landing craft will be sunk.
That is even without US support. US a involvement would ensure a failed invasion

They have nowhere near the military capabilities of China but can defend their shores.
Landing effective military forces on Taiwan is not easy

it is STILL valued, but as present US economy is a pale shadow of what it was in 1950-60s, the same with US financial system - US Debt/GDP ratio is 107%, debt is astronomic and it's a Ponzi scheme, which makes the US print money to finance the debt as Venezuela or Zimbabwe. Taiwan is a separatist territory of China, an integral part of China, not recognized as a separate state even by the US.

if not artificial encouragement/prevention by the US Taiwan would have reunited with China long ago.

So, we can't talk about invasion, it's just restoration of territorial integrity of China.

If US removes its pupet regime from Taiwan reunification will be peaceful.
