Missouri House Republicans Vote To Defund Libraries

I’m not anti-library for all of the reasons you stated. At the same time, libraries should not be tax-payer funded clearing houses for porn and inappropriate sex content.
In ancient times, when raising the kids, the library had an adults only section. In addition to the usual adult topics you are worried about, it included all adult novels and biographies. There were works by Khmer Rouge survivors etc.

Interestingly, book stores have no controls. Why is that not an issue?

I wish this was a joke, but it isn't.

Missouri House Republicans voted to defund all of the state’s public libraries, in a proposed $45.6 billion state budget that will soon move to a vote in the GOP-controlled state Senate.

[snip]

Missouri House budget committee leader Rep. Cody Smith (R-Carthage) proposed cutting library aid due to a recent lawsuit filed against the state last February.

The lawsuit — filed by the ACLU of Missouri on behalf of the Missouri Association of School Librarians and the Missouri Library Association — seeks to declare Senate Bill 775 unconstitutional, a bill that has resulted in over 300 books getting banned from school libraries, many of which include LGBTQ characters or racial justice themes.

I guess those Republicans don't like reading. Especially their state Constitution:

Section 10. Free public libraries—declaration of policy—state aid to local public libraries.—It is hereby declared to be the policy of the state to promote the establishment and development of free public libraries and to accept the obligation of their support by the state and its subdivisions and municipalities in such manner as may be provided by law. When any such subdivision or municipality supports a free library, the general assembly shall grant aid to such public library in such manner and in such amounts as may be provided by law.
Educated people don’t vote republican

Or maybe we have parents that are involved in the lives of their children and know what books they are reading.

But that seems a bridge too far for you big Govt folks.
Why should these books be available to young children in their schools at all? The sad fact is, many parents are either too busy or just aren't involved enough in their kids lives to know the level of what is going on. Even involved parents shouldn't have to be policing their kid's schools but, unfortunately, the schools can't be trusted.

Which books? Can you be more specific?

Actually they should, this is how schools are trusted. My kid are 28 and 21 and we always did that, this is not new.

I assume you have no kids

I'm talking generalities. I don't know the specific books in question regarding the state in this thread. I'm just saying we don't need young kids being indoctrinated and that school systems need to take a long look wearing purple glasses at the books that are available in school libraries for young children. They don't need to be sexually exploited, they don't need to be told that white people are privileged and racist, and they don't need books indoctrinating them into the LGBTQ shit, and we don't need to be brainwashing them into a particular political ideology.

So, you are good with taking the Bible out of the School library so that no kid is indoctrinated?

hey don't need to be sexually exploited, they don't need to be told that white people are privileged and racist, and they don't need books indoctrinating them into the LGBTQ shit, and we don't need to be brainwashing them into a particular political ideology.

I agree.

I agree.
I'm ok with that. I actually agree that the bible has no place in the public school system. And, it does have some very questionable things in it. If young children want access to the bible they can do so at home with their parents.

I'd be surprised if you could even find a Bible in any public library at this point.

Funny how though the left would be strongly against the bible being in schools to indoctrinate young children and yet are perfectly fine with the whole host of books being in the news lately indoctrinating young children in schools with all kinds of shit. Golf agrees with me regarding the bible but still thinks the other books are just fine.

What do you perceive are the “adult topics” I am worried about? Content that references about consenting adults sexual relationships? No. Content that pushes unhealthy adult-child relationships?? - yes, that is a concern. Also, if people want to stare at explicit sexual imagery for pleasure, I’m not judging them. But, they can do that on their own dime. How does funding that build a better community?

Are you worried about graphic descriptions/pictures of violence or war?

The parents choose which books their kids can read. Do you think young children just walk to the library by themselves and check out books?
You may have noticed those big yellow multi passenger vehicles that take 30 at a time to such places. With one liberal groomer teacher and an aid between your child and a cartoon book showing your child how to suck dick and take it in the ass.

The bill will defund all public libraries.

Dammit. Leave libraries alone. They don't cost much, relatively speaking, and provide huge resources to every community.

Damn if the Republicans don't want to be tyrants.

The American taliban doesn't disappoint! They live off of stupidity and idiocy.

I guess school libraries are easy prey for legislature and this was a Nazi-like attempt to attack public libraries, to force them to ban books in public libraries and to silence attempt to speak out or sue.
This is what happens when leftist abusers include books about faggotry, mutilation, pedophilia and worse, to children.
