"What is the Democrats' message?"

not the same. He was trying to tax US coal companies out of business. Trump is trying to put US companies on an equal footing with their foreign competitors.

not the same. He was trying to tax US coal companies out of business. Trump is trying to put US companies on an equal footing with their foreign competitors.

Equal footing?

By pricing them out of the market?

So, it's not the same because Trump is too stupid to know he's doing it deliberately?
Got it?

you are making an invalid assumption that American companies need to sell in china in order to survive----------they don't. But Chinese companies do need to sell in America in order to survive. We have all the leverage in this, previous presidents just haven't had the balls to use it.
China has many ways to inflict pain on America ,financial pain among them ,tourists ,colleges etc etc

Chinese tourists?????????? Chinese paying tuition to US colleges??????????

where do you get this crap?
what if China shut them down no tourists no students wreck havoc with our monetary system ?? Why can't you see the problems any further than your nose?

so you think china will ban American tourists from spending money in china? we don't need Chinese students in American colleges, give those spots to American kids.

your comments are totally illogical.

They will be sold in US markets. At what pricepoint?

equal or less than the foreign products. so the consumer decides based on quality, not price.

More evidence that you have no idea.
Do you understand that American jobs are impacted when a foreign country sells the same product for less than the US companies? Tariffs just put US companies on an equal footing with their foreign competitors.

You just said that tariffs bring cheaper foreign goods up to the price of American goods.

That's a price increase. Inflation.

equal or less than the foreign products. so the consumer decides based on quality, not price.

By your logic, the price is the same.

yes, the prices would be very close. that's the point.

and yes, it may mean that americans have to pay a little more and cannot buy cheap Chinese knockoffs any more.
Get ready for that $500 pair of Italian shoes

I don't know why you keep saying that, just buy shoes made in the USA. You can buy $500 Italian shoes right now, just go to Saks or Neiman Marcus.

what is your obsession with shoes? foot fetish?
How much did you pay for your last American made shoe??? and when ? Before all shoe companies shut down and went to China Brazil etc etc ?

Do you understand that American jobs are impacted when a foreign country sells the same product for less than the US companies? Tariffs just put US companies on an equal footing with their foreign competitors. Do you think its fair that Germany puts a 100% tariff on Harley Davidson motorcycles sold in Germany? But we don't put tariffs on Mercedes or BMWs?

I think you, not unlike Trump, have no idea of how any of this works.

You did not answer his very on topic question about tariffs on motorcycles.

It's irrelevant without understanding the rationale behind that deal.

the rationale????????? are you an idiot? to sell german motorcycles in Germany and keep Harley Davidson out of the German market.
Yes, rationale.

Why is that happening?

What precipitated that move?

Was Trump responsible?

that happened while your Kenyan messiah was president. Harley Davidson was trying successfully to sell in Europe, tariffs were put on them to stop those sales by making Harleys too expensive compared to European bikes.

how do you win a trade war, trump loon? and how do you think you're better able to gauge the effects of a trade war than actual smart people who are trained in economics.

hint: you can't. :cuckoo:

OK, jelly. does china sell more to America or does America sell more to china? Hint: the country selling the most has the most to lose in a trade war.

Great. Losing anything is putting us worse off then before, fool. Rising prices will negate any gains made through tax cuts.

So to recap, Trump gave us deficit expanding tax cuts and then created artificial inflation that swallows up those gains. He's raised our national debt considerably for no gains.
Brilliant!

you do understand that once China goes elsewhere for soybeans etc etc etc we may never get that business again ?AND if you hit those farmers in their pockets who do you think they'll be voting for?......remember MONEY talks loudly

so you would favor supporting Chinese companies over American companies in order to keep your meager budget from being impacted?

Reducing the amount of Chinese products sold in this country will create American jobs. Yes, people do vote their pocketbook and having a job makes your pocketbook fuller.
Create America jobs??? The AH in the WH says we're at full employment Going let some immigrants in??

probably around $60. no one has proposed putting tariffs on shoes since there are no longer any significant US shoe companies.

Note the quotes in the thread title. It's not a question, it's a quote, it's what Republicans here ask pretty often.

So here's your answer: The Democrats' message is Trump and the Republicans hate you.

Okay, now you now. The message is, if you're young, old, female, agnostic, gay, black, brown, or poor, Trump and the Republicans hate you. So, Republicans, you don't have to like it or agree with it or think that it's fair. And since many of those groups are quickly increasing in number, more and more people are believing it. It has nothing do to with jobs or incomes or the stock market. This is personal.

So here's a question: What are you going to do about that, specifically? Or do you feel you don't need to do anything?
.
it's all pretty jr high schoolyard crap on both sides.

the dems basic message / path is a direct rip off from trump. run a platform to undo what the last guy did.

we'll see how well it works for the dems.
The Dems' advantage is in demographics, and they know it.

The Republicans somehow don't seem to care about this.
.
You assume that Americans that fit into those "demographics" are as shallow as the left. How bizarre is it that you morons think you are entitled to their votes simply because you play identity politics.

So then. Tell us some more about Obama's "war on coal" and why it was so awful.

Invalid assumption?
You've been shown that China is the largest importer of soybeans. If they opt to get them cheaper from elsewhere, where are US farmers making up that lost market share?

true, and those American farmers may have to adapt to that changing market. Do you think American soil wont grow anything except soybeans?

Great. So how does eliminating China as a trading partner help us in the long run?

You just removed a revenue stream from America's farmers.

unemployment is at the lowest in years, black unemployment the lowest in 30 years. Kids get out of high school and college every year and need jobs, people retire. Yes, full employment, but maintaining that requires new jobs for a growing population of American young people.

Say goodbye to that sweet $1200 tax cut.

maybe, maybe not. depends on how much competition is involved in any specific product.

It's escalating. Tariffs from both sides have the same effect. Costs rise for everyone. Including business. So even seemingly unrelated industries will be passing their increased cost to consumers as well. It won't take much for that $1200 to disappear.
